With more than 22 years’ experience in her field, Avril is well-known within the profession for acting exclusively on behalf of claimants in complex and high-profile Medical Negligence cases such as the Hepatitis C Tribunal, the Surgical Symphysiotomy Payment Scheme and the CervicalCheck screening controversy.
Avril is extremely highly regarded in this area of law. She is a go-to expert for both industry peers and media outlets to offer her professional opinion, is a regular speaker at medical negligence conferences and events and a frequent contributor to leading medical publications.
Medical Negligence Expertise
Avril has vast expertise in many areas including complex birth injuries, traumatic brain and spinal vascular injuries, delayed diagnosis, Group B Strep, meningitis, neonatal hypoglycaemia, neurological, ophthalmic, obstetric, gynaecological and surgical negligence, sepsis, spinal injuries including cauda equina syndrome and complex orthopaedic surgery injuries including amputations and fatal injury claims.
She also represents families at inquests where their loved one has died through negligent medical treatment. This is often with the aim of getting answers and bringing about changes to improve patient safety.
Avril has represented many families where children have been left with significant disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy and Erbs Palsy and need lifelong private care due to their injuries sustained.
Avril is currently actively advising a number of clients as survivors’ of the child sexual abuse experienced in many Irish schools throughout the country.
She also represents victims of child abuse in cases against institutions such as the church and local authorities.
