It has been reported in a recent article by the Irish Times that several former pupils of Carmelite College in Moate were sexually assaulted by a member of staff in the 1970s and 1980s.
Carmelite College is the latest in a string of private schools have faced allegations of sexual assault and physical abuse. Many former of students of the school have come forward to allege suffering or witnessing sexual abuse while attending the school.
The Carmelite order, who also run Terenure College in Dublin, said 41 allegations of child sexual abuse had been reported against 12 priests who had worked in its schools.
