On the 3rd February 2014, Section 2(1) and Part 3 of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2013 took effect to change the monetary jurisdiction of the civil courts in Ireland. The changes can be seen below:

  1. The District Court monetary jurisdiction will now be limited to €15,000.00 in civil proceedings
  2. The Circuit Court monetary jurisdiction will now be limited to €75,000.00. However, personal injury claims will not be included in this limitation
  3. Personal Injury actions in the Circuit Court will be limited to €60,000 as set out in Section 2 of the Civil Liability and Courts Act 2004

These changes were commenced by ministerial order in December 2013.

There were also new Fee Orders introduced for all courts in January 2014.
